Carrie Mae Weems Print Placed in prominent museum collection

Carrie Mae Weems

Not Manet's Type, 2001
Offset photolithograph
40 × 20 inches
Limited Edition Print

Liz Clement Contemporary proudly announces the placement of Carrie Mae Weems’s iconic print “Not Manet’s Type” (2001) in the collection of a prominent Chicago museum. This powerful work is one in a suite of five prints in which Weems uses her nude body to conjure the male gaze and a history of male artists objectifying female models and perpetuating discriminatory ideals of beauty. “Not Manet’s Type” boldly illustrates Weems’s capacity to evoke a multi-layered narrative through humor, vulnerability, irony, and a lucid visual aesthetic.

Kate Raudenbush's Red Carpet Sculpture at AFI Fest 2019

We are proud to share that visionary sculptor, Kate Raudenbush has taken her work to the red carpet for AFI Fest 2019, run by the American Film Institute and sponsored by Audi. This year’s festival has a feminist ring to it: 51% of the films being screened have been led by female directors. Raudenbush’s sculpture embodies the spirit of the movement #ChangingTheChairs which upholds the achievements of women in film and advocates for future female voices to be heard.

This past August a new museum opened its doors on the campus of CES University in the El Poblado neighborhood of Medellín, Colombia. Museo CES Medina (The Medina Museum) is anchored by the personal art collection of the Medina family and will feature a variety of exhibitions in painting, sculpture, graphic art, installation, video and performance. Its mission is to create a humanistic art space that encourages community and shared experiences as well as “new ways of approaching knowledge through exhibitions of arts and culture”. The museum’s first exhibition showcased new work by Santiago Medina which included his signature large-scale stainless steel sculptures in addition to his new two-dimensional graphic prints on stainless steel.
